Historical forces in world agriculture and the changing role of international development assistance.G. Edward Schuh - 1988 - Agriculture and Human Values 5 (1-2):77-91.
The first part of this paper discusses five sets of forces that have had a major influence on world agriculture in the post-World War II period. These include (1) high rates of population growth in the developing countries; (2) a steady increase in economic integration world-wide, driven by technological breakthroughs in the communication and transportation sectors; (3) major realignments in the values of national currencies; (4) growing distortions in economic policies in both the industrialized and developing countries; and (5) growing (...)

Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes: Law and the Inner Self.G. Edward White - 1995 - Oxford University Press USA.
By any measure, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., led a full and remarkable life. He was tall and exceptionally attractive, especially as he aged, with piercing eyes, a shock of white hair, and prominent moustache. He was the son of a famous father, a thrice-wounded veteran of the Civil War, a Harvard-educated member of Brahmin Boston, the acquaintance of Longfellow, Lowell, and Emerson, and for a time a close friend of William James. He wrote one of the classic works of American (...)

Marxist historiographies: a global perspective.Q. Edward Wang & Georg G. Iggers (eds.) - 2015 - New York: Routledge.
Marxist Historiographies is the first book to examine the ebb and flow of Marxist historiography from a global and cross-cultural perspective. Since the eighteenth century, few schools of historical thought have exerted a more lasting impact than Marxism, and this impact extends far beyond the Western world within which it is most commonly analysed. Edited by two highly respected authors in the field and taking a truly global perspective on this topic, Marxist Historiographies demonstrates clearly the breadth and depth of (...)

  24. What Science Offers the Humanities: Integrating Body and Culture.Edward G. Slingerland - 2008 - New York: Cambridge University Press.
What Science Offers the Humanities examines some of the deep problems facing the study of culture. It focuses on the excesses of postmodernism, but also acknowledges serious problems with postmodernism's harshest critics. In short, Edward Slingerland argues that in order for the humanities to progress, its scholars need to take seriously contributions from the natural sciences - and particular research on human cognition - which demonstrate that any separation of the mind and the body is entirely untenable. The author (...)

Mind and Body in Early China: Beyond Orientalism and the Myth of Holism.Edward G. Slingerland - 2018 - New York: Oup Usa.
Mind and Body in Early China critiques Orientalist accounts of early China as a radical "holistic" other, which saw no qualitative difference between mind and body. Drawing on knowledge and techniques from the sciences and digital humanities, Edward Slingerland demonstrates that seeing a difference between mind and body is a psychological universal, and that human sociality would be fundamentally impossible without it. This book has implications for anyone interested in comparative religion, early China, cultural studies, digital humanities, or science-humanities (...)

In this study, we propose and test a model of the effects of organizational ethical culture and organizational architecture on the perceived unethical behavior of employees towards customers. This study also examines the relationship between organizational ethical culture and moral acceptability judgment, hypothesizing that moral acceptability judgment is an important stage in the ethical decision-making process. Based on a field study in one of the largest financial institutions in Europe, we found that organizational ethical culture was significantly related to the (...)

Ratio-based perceptual foundations for rational numbers, and perhaps whole numbers, too?Edward M. Hubbard & Percival G. Matthews - 2021 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 44.
Clarke and Beck suggest that the ratio processing system may be a component of the approximate number system, which they suggest represents rational numbers. We argue that available evidence is inconsistent with their account and advocate for a two-systems view. This implies that there may be many access points for numerical cognition – and that privileging the ANS may be a mistake.

Kant and the Exact Sciences. [REVIEW]Edward Schuh - 1993 - Review of Metaphysics 46 (4):844-845.
The author of this impressively learned and innovative addition to Kantian scholarship is concerned primarily with Kant's lifelong attempt to furnish philosophical grounds for the exact sciences of his time. The reference to "exact sciences of his time" is of central importance. A part of Friedman's thesis is that Kant scholars, in their eagerness apparently to defend the contemporary relevance of Kant, tend to be embarrassed, in view of twentieth-century developments in science, by the quaintness of Kant's total immersion in (...)
